From the 30th of June to the 2nd of July 2016, Mutare Polytechnic was a hive of visual and performing arts activities organized by TIFAZ (Tertiary Institutions Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe). The festival, which was officially opened by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Dr Ambassador Machiwenyika-Mapuranga, was graced by visiting local and international artistes from Mauritius, South Africa, Kenya, Iran, Syria etc. The Resident Minister for Manicaland Province, Cde Mwanditawepi Chimene, officiated the closing ceremony.
A total of 21 teachers’ and polytechnic colleges in Zimbabwe converged at Mutare Polytechnic to give an opportunity for students to compete and show case their arts talents. Indeed the participating students gave each other tough moments as they displayed their amazing talents.
It was pleasing to note that Mutare Teachers’ College teams did not disappoint. They acquitted themselves so well. Hence Mutare Teachers’ College, the College of Choice in Teacher Education in Zimbabwe, scooped seven awards in this festival. The following awards were won:

Mutare Teachers College has been a continuous and consistent supporter and participant of TIFAZ since its formation five years ago. One of the members of staff of Mutare Teachers’ College, Mr Josphat Mufute, is a Founder member of TIFAZ.  The other Founder Members are Mr. Artanas Ruzive of Morgan ZINTEC and Mr. Charles Jiri of Harare Polytechnic. Hats off to these three guys for their love and appetite for the development of the arts in tertiary colleges.   
The first festival was hosted by Mutare Teachers’ College in the year 2012. Thanks to the college Principal and visionary leader, Mr Muwandi, for accepting and sacrificing to host that event. The other festivals were hosted by the following colleges: Bulawayo poly: 2013; Mkoba Teachers’ College: 2014; and Masvingo Poly: 2015.
